Kinvo Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 September 2026
Kinvo (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a school communication app that lets students,
parents, teachers, and school staff make voice calls and send text messages to
one another through their school. This policy explains what data we process,
why, and your choices.
Information we collect
- Account information — your name, role (parent / teacher / staff),
the school you belong to, and login credentials issued by your school.
- Device identifiers — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token (Android)
and an Apple PushKit VoIP token (iOS), used solely to deliver incoming-call
notifications to your device.
- Call information — metadata about calls you make or receive:
the participants, date and time, duration, and status (answered, missed, etc.).
This is used to show your call history and to apply your school’s calling rules.
- Microphone audio — during an active call, audio is transmitted
in real time to the other participant. Calls are not recorded or stored
by us.
- Messages — where your school enables messaging, the text
messages you send and receive, together with the sender, recipient, date
and time, and delivery/read status. Message text is stored on our secured
servers so it can be delivered and shown in your conversation history.
How we use your information
- To authenticate you and connect your calls.
- To deliver incoming-call notifications, including when the app is closed.
- To display your call history and enforce your school’s calling permissions and limits.
- To deliver messages, show your conversation history, and apply your school’s
messaging permissions, hours and limits.
- To keep the service safe: messages are screened automatically (for example,
a message containing a phone number or link is blocked), and may be reviewed
as described under “Message review for safety” below.
- To maintain the security and reliability of the service.
How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with service
providers only to operate the app:
- Agora — carries the real-time call audio between participants.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers call notifications on Android.
- Apple Push Notification service — delivers call notifications on iOS.
- Our hosting provider — stores your account and call-history data on secured servers.
Data retention
Account, call-history and message data are retained while your account is active.
When your school removes your account, or on a verified deletion request, your
personal data is deleted.
Message review for safety
Messaging is intended as a private line between a student and their own parents.
To keep students safe and to investigate reports of misuse or of an account being
used by someone it does not belong to, an authorised senior officer of Kinvo or of
your school may review message content. Such review is limited to that purpose,
carried out only by specifically authorised personnel, and every access to message
content is recorded in an internal audit log. We do not use message content for
advertising, and we do not sell it.
Security
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Access to stored data
is restricted to authorised systems and personnel.
Children’s privacy
Kinvo is provided to students, parents, teachers and school staff through the
student’s school. Any processing of a student’s information, including message
content and the safety review described above, is carried out under the direction
of, and on the instructions of, the student’s school, which is responsible for
obtaining any parental consent required by law.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by
contacting us at the address below or through your school administrator.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the
“Last updated” date above.
